In 2023, Craig and Nichole traveled to Kenya on their first mission trip, where they learned that more than 40 percent of the population lacks access to clean drinking water. In rural areas, unsafe water is a leading cause of illness, and women and children often walk long distances each day to collect it. While spending time with the Maasai tribe in Kajiado County, they witnessed how water scarcity strains families, livelihoods, and entire communities—especially during droughts.
In 2024, proceeds from Huseby Homes funded a borehole on Maasai land, providing reliable clean water. In 2025, the company expanded its efforts to serve the remote Rendille tribe in the desert region of northeastern Kenya, where safe drinking water requires advanced filtration. Applying decades of construction management experience, Huseby Homes brings the same planning, oversight, and execution standards used in its residential projects to ensure these systems are built for long-term sustainability.
These projects do more than provide clean water — they create educational and economic opportunities, empower women, and strengthen community and church engagement.
